AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE

DEFINING THE TERMS

Bodily Injury Liability Coverage protects you when you are liable for injury or death of others in an automobile accident including legal and court costs. The limits of this coverage refer to the maximum amount the insurance company will pay in the event of a claim. For example, limits of $100,000/$300,000 mean the company will pay as much as $100,000 to each injured person...but not more than a total of $300,000 per accident.

Medical Payments Coverage pays doctors bills, hospitals bills and other related costs for you and your family - regardless of who is at fault in an accident.

Personal Injury Protection Coverage is no-fault coverage. It covers you and your passengers for medical expenses, lost wages and pays for services which those injuries prevent you from performing.

Uninsured Motorists Coverage protects you, your family and passengers if you are injured by a driver with no liability insurance or by a hit-and-run driver, who is held legally responsible for your injuries.

Underinsured Motorists Coverage pays for your loss after the other drivers coverage has been exhausted. This is protection against drivers who have some liability insurance, but not enough to cover your claim.

Collision Coverage pays to fix your car if it is involved in a collision with another vehicle or object.

Comprehensive (other than collision) Coverage pays for damage resulting from such things as fires, falling trees, deer and theft.

Rental Reimbursement; Towing & Labor Coverages are available to drivers who insure their autos for Comprehensive Coverage. They help to reimburse expenses you may incur if you need to rent a vehicle while your car is in the shop due to a covered accident or if your car needs to be towed due to a disablement.

HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE

Most homeowners policies are made up of the following coverages:
Coverage A - Dwelling
Coverage B - Other Structures
Coverage C - Personal Property
Coverage D - Loss of Use
Coverage E - Personal Liability
Coverage F - Medical Payments to Others

For renters or condominium unit owners the coverages are different. We would be happy to discuss your specific needs and recommend the right coverage for you so important coverages are not overlooked.

Most policies also have limitations on some items including (to name a few): Money, watercraft, trailers, jewelry, furs, silverware, firearms, or items used for business. Please be sure to ask us how to insure these items for the proper limit.

Tips for insuring your home:

  1. Insure your home & personal property for their replacement cost value, not market value.

  2. Consider a $500 or $1,000 deductible to save money.

  3. Be sure to mention any smoke detectors, alarm systems, deadbolt locks, or fire extinguishers you have as there are discounts available. You can also receive discounts based on the age of your home or if it is a non-smoking household.

MOST IMPORTANT: Select a local Independent Insurance Agent who can give you the right advice and be there in person when you need him or her the most.
